My Story
If you want the nitty gritty, connect with me on LinkedIn. I think it's more important for you to know what makes me tick and why I will approach my work for you the way I do.
Early start in marketing
My first jobs in the communication field were all about marketing:
-
Tourism and hospitality
-
Residential and commercial development
-
Professional services
-
Cause-related marketing
As a junior staffer, I learned the ropes from some of the best in the business. Mastering these fundamentals has served me well ever since.

In the belly of the beast
I found myself wanting more, so I moved to Washington, D.C., to work on high profile national issues at a firm run by two former White House press secretaries. Traveling the country with Fortune 500 CEOs, I managed public affairs campaigns for such issues as:
-
Health care
-
Telecommunications
-
Defense
-
Publishing
-
Housing

Following my time in our nation's capital, I returned home to San Diego and joined a consulting firm specializing in the public sector. Again on the road, but this time I was criss crossing the country helping government agencies do a better job communicating with those they serve.
-
Cities
-
Counties
-
State and federal agencies
-
Water districts
-
School districts

After helping to grow this firm into a statewide and national leader in effective government communication programs, I decided to see what it was like on the inside. So it is that for the past 15 years I have led community outreach and engagement efforts for a mid-sized municipality in Southern California, long considered one of the best run cities in the country (and my hometown).
Finding public service

Teaching and writing
Ever since I could remember, I have loved to write. I contributed to my first published book at age 15, and have since gone on to have my writing featured in The Wall Street Journal, The New York Times and major dailies around the country. I have worked as an adjunct faculty member at San Diego State University, teaching upper division writing and reporting, and even had my own column for a while in what is now The San Diego Union-Tribune.

Expanding my reach
I've missed consulting, so now I carve out time each month to work with a select number of clients on special projects that allow me to share what I've learned and make an even greater impact.
